$2Mil budgeted feature
film shot entirely on HD. I had the honor of working with
Oscar nominated
director
John Hancock at the
Filmacres
production company. I was assistant editor under
Dennis O'Connor, an industry veteran (I attribute my use of the
trackball to Denis). I learned a lot from him and thank him
for his great story-telling abilities and the patience to show me
some great tricks of the trade.
It was with this movie that I became
very acquainted with the Avid editing system. We were using
version 7.0.2 of the software. We had some major hardware
issues that I was able to fix.
Here is a true story. For the
first several months of production on Suspended Animation, I was the
only one in the editing room and it was my duty to see that things
got taken care of, especially when it came to "THE GOLD" (HD
masters). When
Dennis O'Connor flew in from Hollywood in mid April, 2001 we
walked into the editing room together for the first time and he
immediately turned to me and, after seeing the organization of the
shelf system containing the HD Masters, said "I would like to shake
your hand. That's the best organization I've ever seen."
Which was a great compliment coming from such a veteran of the movie
making business.
I took great care from the very
beginning to make sure that everything was labeled, logged, and easy
to find. I've always believed that organization is the key
component to an efficient editing room.
