Synopsis |
- |
You've heard of reality TV
right? Well...this is reality film.
The cameras follow a filmmaker through the process of making THIS movie as
that process ultimately becomes the movie.
I
Am DB will show a transition from the very low end, no budget, DV,
amateur look to a polished, high quality, HD and then 35mm film with the
typical Hollywood look and feel of a large scale production with a sizeable
budget; a real-time account of the budget at the time of the making of the
film. It will also show the journey of
the director to the number one spot on the IMDb Pro
StarMeter from
an unknown celebrity state. Currently in production in Indianapolis,
California and New York and wherever else the journey demands. |

I met with
Deb (producer)
and Don (attorney) today. We went over the
budget some more; it is "locked" at $3.1 mil.
Don also stated that the I Am DB name is available for
incorporation but instead of going with the C-corp as
originally planned, we will use the LLC structure.
This will be cheaper to setup and easier to maintain
with less "hands in the pot". |

I went to the
Comic-Con
convention in Sandiego with my friend Dr. Eckman.
This was the pleasure side of the trip although I did
still do some work and field some phone calls during
the hotel stay. We had a great time during our 4
day stay here and had the opportunity to meet some of
Dr. Eckman's friends. It turns out that they may
have a part in I Am DB sometime in the future.
Wade is a graphic artists and could do print and DVD
artwork and Sarah is into distribution and mentioned
that I could call her if I needed some advice or help
with that area of filmmaking. |

I met with Don Smiley
(entertainment attorney)
at
1PM
in Los Angeles and got an update on
where things were at with the setup of the new
business; I Am DB should complete its incorporation in
California in the next couple of weeks. We
discussed the budget and what would have to come next
to get us to the point that we may begin accepting
investors funds. |
| |
 |
I met with
Deb Wolff
(producer) in Santa Monica. We are still working
on the budget...it's floating right around $4mil.
We also went over some other details and discussed
when we could have a meeting with the 3 of us
(director, producer, attorney); it looks like that
will be Sunday. |

I drove Beth's
convertible to the LAX to pick up my cameraman
(Andrew
Littlefield). He will be staying
until Friday to film the meetings with Don Smiley and
Deb Wolff...and
anything else that may arise. |

Emil Lawrence
(see
JANUARY 27)
returned my call and invited me to a party at the
Case Del Mar
which was just down the road from me here in Santa
Monica. I was honored to join him during this
birthday celebration for his roommate Maurice.
Emil introduced me to many of his friends. I had
many good conversations and a great time. |

Production is moving
to California!!! Temporarily that is. I
boarded ATA's non-stop flight 101 from Indianapolis
and touched down at LAX at about 9:30PM
Pacific time. I will be staying with a good
friend of mine (Beth
Behler) for most of the time that I'm
out there. She lives in Santa Monica, just a few
blocks from Venice and Santa Monica beach. Beth
will probably become a larger part of production once
the film hits Phase 3 and moves to Cali on a permanent
basis. I will remain in Cali until July
28th...but that is always subject to change. |
| |
 |
I am doing some prep
work and getting the lay of the land as well as some
location scouting for now. My camera man (Andrew
Littlefield) will be flying in on
Monday night and will remain until Friday the 23rd.
At the very least he will film the meeting with
producer
Deb Wolff
as well as first face to face meeting with
entertainment lawyer Don Smiley on Tuesday the 20th. |

I came across a forum
post on
MicrocinemaScene.com
that talks about a half-hour show on the internet
called "Inside-Report"
which showcases independent filmmakers all over the
world (they are based out of England). It is
very entertaining and informative but also has a high
production value. I immediately wanted to see if
I could be an included filmmaker during one of the
future shows. I emailed one of the hosts (Sky
Wilson) back and forth a couple of times and she told
me what she needed from me. |
 |
 |
In order to accommodate the
wishes of Sky Wilson at
"Inside-Report",
I called upon the services of
John Blankenship
with
Derringer Productions
to help set up a "self interview". I stopped by
the studio where John was able to construct a set on
which I could be filmed. I was really just
mainly concerned with capturing superb audio as I know
he is able to do but John ended up lighting me very
nicely as well. John is a true professional at
everything he does and I am thankful that he was once
again able to help me out on such short notice. |
