Synopsis |
- |
You've heard of reality TV
right? Well...this is reality film.
The cameras follow a filmmaker through the process of making THIS movie as
that process ultimately becomes the movie.
I
Am DB will show a transition from the very low end, no budget, DV,
amateur look to a polished, high quality, HD and then 35mm film with the
typical Hollywood look and feel of a large scale production with a sizeable
budget; a real-time account of the budget at the time of the making of the
film. It will also show the journey of
the director to the number one spot on the IMDb Pro
StarMeter from
an unknown celebrity state. Currently in production in Indianapolis,
California and New York and wherever else the journey demands. |

We made an appearance on "Cold
Pizza" (ESPN2) this morning and had a
great time. I was not able to talk of this film
but it was still great to do the skit and meet with
some very cool people from the ESPN2 crew. They
invited us to "please stop back anytime." I am
currently seeking clearance of that clip for inclusion
into this movie. I hope to have a clip that you
can view up on this site by next week.

On the way to the meeting, we ran into
Edward Burns.
He was shooting a movie in the lobby of our hotel with
Rachel Dratch.
Random but cool. |
|
|
 |
Attended
the pre-launch meeting of IPO (Indie Project
Organization) headed up by
David Sonkin.
Very interesting meeting. We met some fine
people and got some great footage for this film.
I also chatted with
Emil Lawrence who
invited me here in the first place; a real genuinely
nice guy. It was a pleasure to make this new
acquantance. |

Closer to #1. The
StarMeter
has again updated and my ranking is showing marked
improvement; even more so than last week. It has
improved from 17,766 to 15,463. That's an
increase of 2,303 |

WE GOT DEAN!
Dean Jacobson
calls me back and says that he will be flying into NY
to meet us as we prepare for the meeting with Emil
Beheshti at the "pre-launch meeting of an exciting new
production company". He also states that Cali is
now a "possibility". Time will tell. I'm
very excited to have him on board. |
|
|
 |
Here at
the studio I meet with
Eric Hall whom I
met through
Faith Marie at
her New Years Eve gig at the
Adams Mark Airport Hotel.
He's a motivational speaker among many other things.
A gentleman and a professional. We had a great
talk and he had some suggestions as to how I could
make the movie appeal to people on a broader scale.
It also sounds like he can help me obtain a budget.
I just need to get some things down on paper... |
|
|
 |
Given
the current situation and the possibility of a budget
right around the corner, I think it is necessary to
postpone my Cali trip. I need to seek out this
"budget" opportunity in the Indy area first. |
|
|
 |
I had
been emailed several times by another local filmmaker
(Andrew
Littlefield) who wants to help with
this movie. I was finally able to give him a
call back and invited him to the studio. He will
now be doing a majority of the filming with one of the
Canon XL1's for
at least the time being, including the NY trip. |
|
|
JANUARY 22,

Dean Jacobson
calls me back and we discuss NY and Cali in more
detail. He is unsure what he is able to do but
states that he will call me back with some definite
answers. |

 |
WOW!!
Big day |
|
|
 |
I spoke
with
Beth Behler
to discuss the possibility of staying with
her once I move production to Cali. I worked
closely with her during
Suspended Animation
and became pretty good friends. This call was
necessary because I have a feeling that I will be
flying to Cali very soon... |
|
|
 |
On my way to the meeting with Dave
Halcomb (see
JANUARY 19),
Dean Jacobson
calls me on my cell. He states that he could
potentially come on board as a camera operator while
using his own
Canon XL1.
This is HUGE!!! If
Dean Jacobson
lends his filmmaking skills to this
film...it will take another huge step forward.
He has much knowledge of the industry and filmmaking
in general. He was, among other things, one of
the producers of
Suspended Animation. |
|
|
 |
The
meeting with Dave Halcomb went very well. He has
stated that I can use his
Canon XL1 for as
long as I need to except from Feb 4 to Feb 9 when he
will need the camera in Cali for a powered paraglider
fly-in. I suggested that I fly out with him and
film everything that he needs so that he won't be
lugging around a camera and worrying about taping
stuff. He agreed. I need to book a flight!
I'm going to Cali. |

I
decided that I will drive to New York on January 27
for a "pre-launch meeting of an exciting new
production company" that
Emil Lawrence
invited me to. It will be a great opportunity to
meet with him and fellow filmmakers to further
develop, create, and promote this film. |
|
|
 |
I placed
a phone call to Dave Halcomb of the band,
Pfreakshow.
My girlfriend, Faith Marie, used to sing with them
(2002). They do a lot of multimedia during their
shows and Dave has a
Canon XL1 that he
rarely uses. I asked him if I could use the
Canon XL1 for the
film. We are meeting tomorrow to see if this is
a possibility. We could potentially be pretty
close to moving on to the next phase of this film. |

|
JANUARY 18,
2004
- Sunday |
|
|
 |
The
IMDbPro
StarMeter has
updated once again (it does so every Sunday) and my
ranking has improved from 18,479 to 17,766. |
|
|
 |
Here is
an interesting fact. I first mentioned
Marc Blucas' name
last week along with a hyperlink that goes to his IMDb
profile. I checked his StarMeter ranking today
and it has increased dramatically from 729 to 309.
That's the best position he's been at since back in
March 3 of 2002 (# 271)when he was in
We Were Soldiers
with
Mel Gibson.
I'm pretty sure that his StarMeter ranking has
increased because of the publicity surrounding this
production. |

Emil Lawrence
called me today and we spoke for a while. He is
an actor in Cali and also trying to get more involved
with the production side of things. He invited
me to an event in New York. It is a "pre-launch
meeting for an exciting new production company".
I am exploring my options to see if I can get myself
out there and also to film my interaction with
whomever I meet. |

 |
I now
have the capabilities of recording both sides of a
telephone conversation. That means that I will be able
to include some of those conversations in the movie.
This next week will be full of phone calls to contacts
that I have recently acquired. |
|
|
JANUARY 13,
2004
- TUESDAY |
|
|
 |
I
finally have been able to formulate a one sentence,
descriptive "capsule" to describe the movie -
"I Am DB" is a documentary that shows the cameras
following a filmmaker as he goes through the process
of making a movie while that process ultimately
becomes the movie. |
|
|
JANUARY 12,
2004
- monday |
|
|
 |
Had a
follow-up meeting with Ari Wolfe and
Lisa Lee.
Ari brought a list of 7 contacts. On that list
was
Melissa Rivers,
Charles Venturi,
and
Marc Blucas.
Ari had already laid some groundwork contacting them
to let them know that I would be calling. Some
of these are celebrities while others are involved
with the production side of things. |
|
|
 |
Ran out
and bought the movie "They".
This flick stars
Marc Blucas
(mentioned above) so I wanted to support his work and
also familiarize myself with him. I also rented
Summer Catch
which he stars in as well. |

The
IMC (Indy's Music Channel - Comcast channel 99)
talk show program that I was invited to as a guest,
has now been uploaded to the IndianapolisFilm.net
site. This is the second appearance on the show.

I met with
Lisa Lee here at
the studio and showed her some clips from past
meetings and TV spots to help explain the concept.
She stated that she liked the idea and would be
willing to help. She said that she knows some
people in the industry that might be willing to assist
such as:
Melissa Rivers,
Charles Venturi, Ari Wolfe, and
Freddy Stebbins.
I await her call back. |
|
|
 |
Later
that night I met with
Lisa Lee and
Ari Wolfe at
Lulu's while Faith Marie and the Alligator Brothers
were singing.
Ari
was great to talk to. He is a very
positive and energetic person and understood what I am
trying to do with this film. He tells me to call
him tomorrow and we'll set up a time when we can meet
in a more conversation conducive atmosphere. |

JANUARY 5,
2004
- MONDAY |
|
|
 |
And...I'm back. WOW! What a holiday
season. Busy, Busy, Busy. The holidays
really screwed up my StarMeter ranking as I was not
able to concentrate on the movie at all. If I
wasn't buying gifts, I was at my folks home in
Michigan celebrating Christmas and New Years with my
family. Back to business in '04 |
